I am going to start off by saying that it is not impossible to reach your goals without a trainer—even though many Huntington Beach fitness trainers may try to tell you otherwise. Some people do very well on their own and do not work well with other people and to these people I would suggest to continue working out on their own. However, for people who aren’t as experienced with working out, do well when someone holds them accountable, or who want someone with proper knowledge to design a highly-effective, safe program for them, fitness training is practically a necessity.
First let’s compare working out on your own at the gym or jogging outside and training with a fitness trainer. When you work out on your own, you have to depend on yourself for everything. If you decide to skip out on a workout, there’s nobody to hold you accountable, so you’re more likely to do it. If you don’t fully understand biomechanics and proper exercise form, or have enough control of your body to ensure that you are following the proper path of movement, then you can injure yourself (which happens to a LOT of folks who work out on their own). Finally, to learn what works and doesn’t work takes an immense amount of trial and error as well as your own research—all of which takes a lot of time and effort.
As for simply jogging outside, you’re going to soon discover that you experience very lackluster results (if any at all) because you will not be addressing the factors that power your metabolism (and thus are the key to body composition changes), will not be building muscle and may injure yourself if you aren’t using proper running mechanics, which describes most folks who run!
When you work with a qualified fitness training professional on the other hand, all of these issues are alleviated. As a fitness expert, your trainer also understands the intricacies of human movement patterns, proper posture and signs of muscle imbalances. Now let’s compare working out to DVDs like P90X and hiring a trainer. While at-home DVDs seem as though they would overcome the issue of figuring out what you should be doing to get results, the truth is that many of the programs are ineffective because they don’t push you hard enough. If you want to see results, you have to train yourself to your limit. I understand many people don’t want to accept this, but it’s a fact. Workout DVDs tend to cater to the lowest common denominator, and even the “super hardcore” ones like INSANITY and P90X tend to be too easy. Besides, the bottom line is no matter how hard a workout being demonstrated is, if you have nobody to push you to match the intensity, you’re not going to see the results you want.
Workout DVDs also can’t address the issues relating to posture and proper exercise form. Additionally, the trainer on the DVD can’t see you individually, so they can’t make a call on whether you should be performing specific exercises or not, which means you can very easily still get injured. Finally, there is still no accountability, so if you skip a workout, nobody but you will know, which means it will be very tempting to do so.
