6 Warning Signs of a Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer

Pervert Trainer 6 Warning Signs of a Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness TrainerYou’re on this page because you’re looking to start fitness training in Corona Del Mar, and you’re looking for a high-quality fitness trainer to help you achieve your goals. Unfortunately, this process is easier said than done, because there are so many shoddy fitness trainers out there that it can be hard to find someone worthy of your trust. As a Corona Del Mar fitness training expert myself, I understand what does and doesn’t make a good trainer.

Hopefully this article will help you in your search and explain some of the traits you should look out for when trying to find a trainer to work with. If the fitness trainer in question demonstrates even a single one of these characteristics, you should consider it a deal breaker and move on to the next trainer, because if you don’t, you’ll be setting yourself up for injury, lackluster results, and a general distaste for the fitness industry. After all, if you’re going to be paying someone to train you, you want to make sure that they are giving you your money’s worth, right?

Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer Warning Sign #1: Doesn’t Hold a Nationally-Accredited Fitness Training Certification

If your fitness trainer doesn’t have a currently-valid certification, whether because he or she allowed their certification to expire or (God forbid) they never got certified in the first place, you need to run for the hills as quickly as possible. When I say a currently-valid certification, by the way, I’m not talking about some open book online quiz from “Jack’s Fitness Academy” that is actually Jack’s garage, I am talking about a certification from a respected, nationally-accredited agency.

There are only eight NCCA-accredited certification agencies, and they are NASM, ACE, NCSF, NFPT, NSCA, NESTA, ACSM and IFPA. If your trainer doesn’t hold a certification from one of those eight, then you have no way of being sure your trainer knows their “glutes” from a hole in the ground, if you catch my drift. Don’t gamble with your safety by working with someone who got certified under a sub-par agency—go with someone who cares enough to get a real certification.

Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer Warning Sign #2: Has Fake Testimonials

I can’t count the number of fitness training websites in Corona Del Mar alone that share the same pictures and stories as other fitness training companies, both local and far away. Either their clients are incredibly disloyal and have been with scores of different trainers (not to mention, somehow lived all over the US in the process and hired trainers from many different cities and states) or, more likely, these trainers are stealing testimonials from each other’s websites because they have none of their own and are too dishonest to admit it.

Honest fitness trainers bust their behinds to get enough clients to have quality testimonials. As a new trainer, this often means training some folks for free, partnering with human resources departments of corporations, or spending many years as an employed trainer of a gym to build up the clientele needed to provide quality testimonials. Just about every successful, honest trainer has had to dig in and go through this period of growing pains, but trainers who don’t want to do the hard work feel it’s acceptable to create fake testimonials to circumvent the entire issue. You don’t want to entrust your health to a shady individual.

Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer Warning Sign #3: Trains as a Part-Time Side Job

Many fitness trainers in Corona Del Mar and in general decided to become trainers simply because they already liked working out and thought it would be an easy job to make some extra money on the side, while they bartended or bounced at clubs on the weekend. This is an issue, because if they have another job, then they clearly don’t have the necessary time nor desire to keep themselves educated about the fitness industry to the level they should be. Fitness is a serious matter, and clients can get seriously injured or sick if their trainer doesn’t know enough about the subject to keep them safe and out of harm’s way.

Just as you wouldn’t likely go to a part-time doctor, you shouldn’t train under a part-time trainer. Full time trainers are much more likely to be individuals who felt a calling and have a serious passion for helping others get healthy and achieve their fitness results—these people are the types of trainers you want to hire if you want to see serious results.

Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer Warning Sign #4: Doesn’t Offer Nutritional Guidance

While a personal trainer who isn’t also a licensed dietitian should not be providing prescriptive nutrition to his or her clients, having a very in-depth understanding of nutrition and the ability to make food choice recommendations, explain calories in vs. calories out, blood sugar stability, pre and post workout meal timing and other such concepts will allow the trainer to be much more effective in getting you the results you want than a trainer who ignores these things. Even better, you should find a fitness trainer who not only has a firm grasp of nutrition, but also networks with a licensed dietitian who IS qualified to write meal plans and supplementation programs for you.

Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer Warning Sign #5: Doesn’t Specialize in Your Goal

Many Corona Del Mar trainers have no specialty. They simply train anyone who comes through their doors because they are concerned with making as much money as possible, not with honing their skills in a niche so that they can provide their niche with the best possible service. Just as you would go see an orthopaedic surgeon if you had knee issues, or an orthodontist if you needed a root canal or braces, you should find a specialist in the fitness field whose speciality is inline with your goals.

Finding a specialist is good because if you do not fall into their target market, they will be happy to refer you to a high-quality trainer in the area who does cater to folks with your particular goals. If you hire a generalist, they are likely going to act as though they are the be-all and end-all when it comes to any aspect of health and wellness. Of course, this isn’t true because nobody is the ultimate expert in every area of health.

Crummy Corona Del Mar Fitness Trainer Warning Sign #6: Unprofessional Demeanor

It’s pathetic that this even has to be brought to attention, but the fact of the matter is that many fitness trainers flirt with their clients in an inappropriate manner, or even sleep with them. To anyone serious about their business, this kind of behavior is completely unacceptable. Additionally, having your trainer constantly making sexual comments, gestures or touching you inappropriately can make you feel extremely uncomfortable and violated, not to mention it means that their attention isn’t focused on getting you results.

This is one of the main reasons you should ask to speak with current or past clients of any trainer you consider hiring. You don’t need to outright ask them if the trainer is a creep, but you’ll be able to tell from talking to them about their experience if the trainer is professional and respectful or not. If you have any doubts, trust your instincts and find someone else to work with so that you do not have to deal with this nonsense.
