6 Easy, Healthy Snack Ideas
I recommend to all my clients that they eat 5 times per day to ensure a consistent flow of nutrients and energy to the body, to keep blood sugar levels stable and to reduce the chances of overeating—which is more common when one eats fewer, larger meals than when one eats smaller, more frequent meals. Additionally, eating 5 times per day allows my clients to still eat a standard breakfast, lunch and dinner, which works well for most people who work at an office and/or go out to dinner with their families sometimes, etc. All that my clients need to do is add in two small snacks in between the other meals and they are all set.
One common complaint is that it is sometimes difficult to bring all that food to work each day. My answer is always the same; simply pack a legitimate lunch, and the other two meals you bring can consist of small, easy-to-prepare foods that shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to pack. Below I have included some ideas for these snacks to get you started. Continue Reading 6 Easy, Healthy Snack Ideas »
Benjamin’s Thanksgiving Survival Guide, Pt. 2
Continuing our Thanksgiving Survival Guide series, here are a few more recipes to try out. Remember, healthy food doesn’t have to be an obligation—if you get creative you can make dishes that are just as delicious and flavorful, if not more so, than their fattening, unhealthy alternatives!
Candied Sweet Potatoes Alternative: Cider-Glazed Roots with Cinnamon Walnuts
Using a Splenda blend allows us to reduce the sugar content of the glaze, while the variety of roots supplies a high amount of vitamins and minerals and produces a very colorful dish.
- 3 pounds assorted root vegetables, peeled (see tip) and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cup apple cider

Benjamin’s Thanksgiving Survival Guide, Pt. 1
Thanksgiving happens to be my favorite holiday. I love food, and while Thanksgiving originated to celebrate the act of being thankful for who and what we have in our lives, we all know we’re kidding ourselves if we don’t admit that the feast is a major (perhaps the primary) aspect of this holiday!
While I encourage the occasional splurges because it has been shown to help keep the overall nutrition program on track (less chance of burning out), and Thanksgiving is one of the best times to take advantage of said splurges, that doesn’t mean that one needs to purposely make meals as unhealthy as possible. Beyond this, “healthy eating” shouldn’t be seen as a necessary, less-tasty alternative to the unhealthy foods we all enjoy eating—there is no reason healthy foods can’t be made just as deliciously (or often MORE deliciously) as their unhealthy counterparts.
